Overview of RAC
Oracle RAC stand for Real Application Cluster software. This was introduced by oracle in 2001 for database high availability and load balancing for their client. In oracle RAC it allows multiple instances to access single oracle database i.e. multiple servers which will be a part of a cluster can access database simultaneously hence the performance of the database will increase. Means multiple clients can access the database at time from different instance hence the number of process will also increase. The Instances part of a cluster is also connect to each other not only with database hence the instances share data between each other also this feature is known as cache fusion.
In RAC we used to store over database in shared environment its means in shared file system. We general used ASM file system to store database in shared location. Hence we use shared location so that multiple machines can access the database.Back to top
